A card for Ollie

Here's a recent card I made for my nephew's birthday. I really love the papers which are from the Birthday Basics designer series pack. I know these are going to get used a lot, especially for kids birthdays!!

Ollie's name was stamped with the Noteable Alphabet stamps and the 3 was cut using the Typeset Number dies on my Big Shot.

I added a little scrap of paper inside the card.

I also used the simply scored tool to create an embossed zig-zag effect.

Special Age Cards 30, 40 and 80

Hi again.  I have had loads of special birthday cards to make over the last few weeks - some were for my my friends and family and some were 'commissions' from work colleagues!

Here are a few of the ones I have made. I had fun making the rosettes which feature on most of them - these are really simple to make using the score board.

The 30th Birthday card uses some recently retired papers as well as silver glimmer paper.  The sentiment is Perfectly Penned and I heat embossed this with black embossing powder to get a raised finish.

The 40th card followed the same style but this time I used the Quatrefancy papers in the new catalogue.  the colours are so bright and cheerful!

The 80th birthday cards were for a work colleague to give to his dad - he wanted one for him and one for his son.  I used up some more retired papers for these, including Mocha Morning, and the stamps are Memorable Moments - which I embossed on black card with white embossing powder to get a chalkboard effect!

Cupcake post-it note holders

Good afternoon!  I'm back with a quick post today to show you some of my post-it note holders that I made for a recent craft fair. I got the design idea from Victoria Rogers at Blue Jelly Stampin and I used the Sunshine and Sprinkles designer series papers which are just so colourful and jolly!

I love tea!

Yes, I do love my tea!  And I love this teacup stamp which comes as part of the Tea Shoppe stamp set in the Summer Mini catalogue! 

Rather than rely on my trusty Stamp-a-ma-jig to perfectly line up each cup, I first scored my card using the Simply Scored tool to make squares which I could stamp in!  The Tea Shoppe stamps I used were clear-mounted so I could easily see where I was stamping.

Just as an aside...I thought I would share a snapshot of my work area - this much mess was for making just a couple of cards!  Can you imagine what a 10-20 card session might look like??  Well let's just say the mess is not just confined to one table, or one room for that matter!!

Folded pocket note card holder

Here is a very cute and easy little project which is great for using up your designer series papers.  It's usually called a teabag holder because it's the perfect size for holding a teabag or two and makes a really sweet gift.  We were shown how to make this at our team training session but there are loads of videos on YouTube - just search for teabag holder for instructions.

The matching note cards use up more scraps and have a flower stamped using Mixed Bunch and punched out with the Blossom Punch - so quick - a whole stack of these take minutes to make!

The envelopes are made easy with the Simply Scored tool!  I love how you can make your own envelopes that perfectly co-ordinate with your cards - it just adds an extra special touch.

New home card

I saw a really lovely bird house card on a blog (click here) this weekend and wanted to recreate it to make a New Home card.

The fence is particularly effective I think - it is punched with the scallop border and then scored using the new Simple Scored tool.  Simple!

The paper I have used for the bird was the Sale-a-Bration papers Everyday Elegance, and the cloud stamp is from the retired Good Neighbours stamp set.

I printed out the sentiment and used the word window to punch it out.

Sweet Cake

The second of my Summer Mini projects uses the very very gorgeous Sweet Cake stamp set.  It's so retro and yummy. I have a feeling I'll be using this a lot, but for this project I wanted to try something new.

I had seen some examples online of a technique involving embossing with clear powder in several layers to give a cracked glass effect.  But this stamp reminded me of the vintage signs you see everywhere so I wondered if I could use the same technique to make it look like a vintage metal sign.

I inked up the stamp with the marker pens (it takes a little while to colour it in so you need to breathe on it to re-moisten just before stamping!). Then I aged the card using sponge daubers and marker pens round the edges - it is supposed to look like rusty metal! 

Next I dabbed Versamark ink all over it covered with clear embossing powder and heated to melt.  Once completely dry I repeated with another layer of embossing powder, and a third.  I could scratch and crack the surface a bit then.

I mounted the 'sign' onto very vanilla which I had scored on the diagonal using the new Simply Scored scoring tool.  It's hard to see how well it turned out from the pictures but I was very pleased with the results!!
